Timeless Narratives
Have you ever thought about what aging is? What comes to your mind when we use the word “aging?” Have you ever wondered what aging truly entails?
The aging issue stands as a poignant chapter in the narrative of societal evolution, demanding our attention and collective solutions. It unravels generational bonds, exposing a widening gap between youth’s exuberance and elders’ seasoned wisdom, entangled in a web of misconceptions that hinder communication.
Yet, within this historical backdrop, resilience emerges as a guiding force. This summer, my forthcoming project embarks on a journey to unravel the narratives of the elderly in Portland. Through the lens of documentary film and portrait photography, I hope to seek to amplify the voices of seniors through my project. I hope to foster empathy and understanding. With this project, I endeavor to bridge intergenerational divides and foster a community of mutual respect and appreciation.
This summer, I embarked on a journey to connect with some chronologically gifted individuals, capturing their life stories through interviews and portraits. One of my desires, which inspires me for this project, is to understand and celebrate the lives of those who have lived through so much and have so much wisdom to offer.
One of the most memorable parts of this project was the personal connections I built with my participants. Their stories were rich with experiences, from moments of joy to challenges they had overcome. Their resilience struck me, and how they continue to engage with life, no matter their age.
